"I watched a lot of Kim Seohyun's videos because the ball was good..." Why did Rojas think of Son Dong-hyun

Kim Seo-hyun (21), the top relief pitcher of the Hanwha Eagles in the professional baseball league, lost the game for the first time. A shot by Mel Rojas Jr., a 35-year-old foreign hitter of the KT Wiz, gave Kim Seo-hyun his first run and loss at the same time. 먹튀검증

In a home game against KT of the 2025 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League held at Hanwha Life Ball Park in Daejeon on Saturday, Kim Seo-hyun took the mound as relief pitcher in the top of the ninth inning and allowed one hit, two walks and one run in one inning. As Hanwha lost 1-2, Kim Seo-hyun was the losing pitcher for the first time this season.

Before taking the mound, Kim had allowed no runs in 13 consecutive games and 11 ⅔. He settled down as the closing pitcher, emerging as "Mr. Zero," but allowed his first run on the day. His walk became the seed of his first run.

Kim Seo-hyun, who gave a walk to leadoff hitter Yoo Joon-kyu, who came out as a substitute, allowed Kwon Dong-jin to walk with one out and one on the first base, which led to Bae Jeong-dae's grounder to the third base. He also allowed Kwon to get on base with a walk after five pitches this time.

After stacking runners with runners on the first and second bases with one out, the batter encountered Rojas. As his slider went out of the zone for one or two consecutive pitches, he was at a disadvantageous count. He threw a 153 km/h fastball on the third pitch, which Rojas pulled. His timely hit to leave the right field led to KT's 2-1 victory. The moment Kim Seo-hyun's first run was directly linked to defeat.

After the game, Rojas said, "I prepared by watching a lot of pitching videos because the opponent Kim Seo-hyun was showing good performance as a closer. As always, the ball was good today, so I focused on producing in-play balls rather than long balls. I was aiming for a fastball unconditionally, but I was lucky to come in at the end, and I got good results."

There was another reason why Rojas was more focused at bat. "In the pre-match broadcast preview show, Son Dong-hyun (KT) and Kim Seo-hyun were the league's Mr. Zero players. Son Dong-hyun came out first and got hit, so as a team, I focused on Kim Seo-hyun and his opponent," he said, referring to Son Dong-hyun, who ended his scoreless streak on the same day as Kim Seo-hyun.

Son had not given a single run in this season before taking the mound. He had an earned run average of 0.00 in 15 ⅓ innings. However, he took the mound in the seventh inning with a 1-0 lead, but was hit by a solo homer to left-center field by Noh Si-hwan after one out. As his fastball of 146 kilometers per hour became an error that passed high in the middle, he allowed his first run of the season and made a blon save.

Rojas, who met Kim Seo-hyun after Son's scoreless record was broken, also wanted to block his march to Mr. Zero. Consequently, thanks to Rojas' finishing hit, Son garnered his third win of the season. He was hit with an equalizer by Noh Si-hwan, but allowed two hits and one run during two innings until the eighth inning, and played multiple innings. Park Young-hyun, the closing pitcher of the ninth inning, overcame the crisis of one out and runners on the first and second bases, keeping Son's victory in relief.

After the game, Son thanked starting pitcher Soh Dong-joon, who was interviewed by his team's instructor, for putting his hands tightly together. It bothered him that he failed to meet the requirements for starting pitcher Soh Dong-joon, who pitched six innings, allowing one hit, one walk and 10 strikeouts. However, he said, "It is better that our team lost consecutive games than my victory. I am not disappointed because I think (Son) Dong-hyun will stop me if I have such a situation next time."

After losing for two consecutive games, KT moved up from fifth to fourth with 14 wins, 12 losses and one draw. "Starting pitcher So Hyung-joon pitched really well to pave the way for victory. Son Dong-hyun and Park Young-hyun, who followed suit, also defended well under tight conditions," KT manager Lee Kang-chul said. "Kwon Dong-jin's first RBI single helped boost the mood of the game. Later, he allowed a tie, but the batters showed their concentration in the last chance. Rojas was able to win with an additional RBI," he praised the players.

Hanwha, on the other hand, saw its upward trajectory decline due to two consecutive losses after eight consecutive wins. It had 15 wins and 13 losses, falling from the second place to the fifth. It is regrettable that Kim Seo-hyun's first loss of the season was directly linked to the loss, but it was a loss that he would record someday. After his first loss, Kim grounded out Kim Min-hyuk to the third base with two outs and a runner on the second base, which led to the opponent team's baserunning, and gave no additional runs. Although he lost the game, his earned run average for this season is still good at the 0-point range (0.71).
